MIA, le restaurant étoilé de Montpellier - MIA, the michelin star restaurant of Montpellier

By 5:36 PM , , , , , , , ,

Blog recurring theme, food .. Yes, yes, I'll be back soon with recipes.
But to talk about food and excellence, my kitchen is not a typical example.

Thanks to a discount card offered by A and my dad, we can enjoy many meals in listed restaurants in the area, by paying half. (Yes, B, I promise you this week brings in Nîmes so you can enjoy it with M.)
Flipping through the guide, Stefan realized that michelin star restaurant of Montpellier, MIA,  was part of the selection. Neither one nor two, we reserves. Luckily, there was room for the same night (a Saturday). Then we immediately think of the hungry ones up the street (aka my father and A.). Too bad for B, M and S, the boys were having a bachelor party and M was playing at the time. We proposed, we reserve and we're off to discover this restaurant.

First impressions are mixed. You will call me a difficult person. But the restaurant is based in the new district of Montpellier, one near of the new town hall. The area is becoming more friendly, very modern, but impossible to park. For a michelin star restaurant, we expected more opportunities. Regardless, a niche within a construction site will be perfect to put the Renault Espace. (I would like to insist on the car, because Stefan is experiencing depression since Frank Underwood aka Kevin Pacey makes the ad for a French car). If you do not know the place, it is very difficult to locate the a restaurant in the middle of the design center. The terrace is a bit too beach restaurant. Nothing wrong with that, but it is not very classy. Regarding the interior of the restaurant, personally I love it. The style is very pampering and adapted to the space. For once, the seats are comfortable, light is present enough to see what we eat, good sound to be able to share a conversation, and I love the colors. The restaurant is not at all pompous, but family trendy.
I guess you are fed up of my descriptions ... But as said, this blog, I do it for me.

The service is pleasant, wearing a little too short (I did see the shorty lace of the waitress, I think it's for tips), smiling, not stuffy, and good advice.

The wine cart has us baffled. Indeed, it is classified by characteristics of wine. White, rosé, red are mixed. I understand the desire of the sommelier, but it's twisted. Fortunately, help guided us towards good surprises: a Pic Saint Loup and a Chateau Neuf du Pape.
We enjoyed the carte menu (the name is a basic one): canapé, amuse-bouche, appetizer, intermezzo, main course, dessert and sweets for € 65 (one little reminder we had an offer: a menu bought, the other offered) .  The experience is totally described thereafter with some pictures and comments.

To sum up, the experience was enjoyable. My father was delighted that Montpellier could again have a certain standard in French cuisine. A went back full of ideas for the coming meals. Stefan went on a full stomach. Finally, I went head full of stars, hoping one day to be able to associate the flavors in the kitchen as well as the head chef.
So dear non-readers, the MIA is an approved Charlotte restaurant ...

Mojito Jelly (a killer), shuffleboard with olives, smoked salmon sushi and tuna mousse

Amuse-bouche

Panacota of mascarpone and coconut with scallops and green asperagus. Frankly, the association doesn't sound great, but it was a delight.

I tasted a slice of lobster (see menu), only problem the asparagus bathed in a citrus cream which gave us an impression of macedoine (a type of salad : carrots, peas in mayonnaise). The recall of childhood was not excellent. The lobster was a bit overcooked. The only downside of the evening. A, Stefan and I regretted not taking the monkfish fritters. My father has eaten and has not left a crumb. Peace, he burned the language by too much zeal.

 Intermezzo

Miam !!!
We had an excellent blood orange sorbet with rhubarb puree, all bathed in a pink champagne. PERFECT ... the combination was perfect. My adoration of pink champagne with two of my favorite fruits. Yum !!!

Plats / Main Dish

The milk lamb fillet of Aveyron was too tempting. It was accompanied by a chickpea flour Panisse. The meat was tender and very well cooked. Delicious! Stefan has devoured a sirloin of Aubrac, with a marrow bone (another of my adoration). A and Dad are left tempted by a wild cod. Everyone enjoyed his dish till the last mouthful.

 Dessert

We were all in agreement, that the dessert would be coconut and grapefruit. I can not describe this dessert. But it was divine. I am looking for adjectives to define the experience. Simply put, it would have been served to us a second time, we would have to eat it.

Mignardises / Sweet

Pasta quince and real marshmallows ...They were devoured in few instants, so no pictures. For this lack of pictures, we dance the MIA (90's french song about 80's night club) !!!
