Rome - Part 3
Jour 3 :
Habemus Papam |

Day 3:
It was a promise, we had to go to visit St Peter basilic, Vatican. Naturally, we wanted to wake up early and to leave quickly. But knowing the speed capacities of my dear one, it was an impossible mission. Well, I stop grumbling. We go towards this majestic church, and stroke of luck: the waiting line is ridiculous. I cannot describe you the beauty of this place. You have to take your small sneakers and go there (believers or not).
We visit, I act like a Japanese (for info: I took more than 3000 pictures), and the hasard does things well : it is Sunday's mass, and moreover the last Advent Sunday.
Feeling wings, we joined the crowd and cardinals to attend a mass in the basilica. Lucky us, it was in Italian, Spanish and French, and was about a subject we all know (almost anyone) the visit of the Angel Gabriel to Marie (the Annunciation for the non-initiated). It was fabulous, so many nationalities, so many different faces.
Intérieur de la Basilique Saint Pierre |
We returned to the basilica and finished visiting it (even the catacombs).

Panino Divino |
And then, as usual, we left for an adventure... Traveling the streets of Rome (rather yucky, even just a step from Vatican and tourist attractions), I was sure that at one point or another we would fall on the Tiber. If we did not find it, my sense of direction (out of the norm) had failed in me. I am really the best, we found the Tiber with no problem at all. By crossing the small bridge, we fell direct on the Piazza del Popolo: magnificent obelisk, and magnificent gardens above. As we had neither map, nor network, we rose with difficulty (we didn't manage to digest the enormous amount of panini eaten), we discovered with enjoyment that we were in the park of the Villa Borghese.
A break is imperative, we admire one hell of a sightof Rome, and we leave again to have a walk. We did not realize that the park was immense. Our poor feet!!!
But my outstanding sense of direction still saved us. We found with no problem at all the famous Villa Medici (openly not very beautiful!), and we found ourselves at the top of the steps of Spain.

And there, the bad idea of the century, last Sunday before Christmas, go down the steps to find ourselves in the crowd who finishes its Xmas purchases. It is 6:30 pm, there is a ton of people, we have a walk, we look at shops, I discover COS (subject of another blog), we admire Italian-style suits we look, as mad cows, for an electric Italian-style coffee machine which we shall not find. That exists (look at my beautiful photo)... and that till 8:30 pm
To finish we returned to the apartment, we took a small shower, we massaged our feet, we went to a correct restaurant (I thought so much of the Panini of noon), we made a tourin town, we ate an ice-cream made by Pakistanis (they are everywhere), we returned to prepare our suitcases and we slept like babies.
The suite, next time my non-readers...
